WHAT TO KNOW

Before

Is Microblading for me?

Microblading can have amazing results and is great for anyone who wishes to enhance their eyebrows, however it all starts with a healthy canvas!

From your age to the condition and quality of your skin, a lot goes into the safety and effectiveness of the microblading process. Also, pre-existing health conditions, treatments and medications can lead to complications, increase the risk of infection which can compromise the effectiveness of microblading leading to poor healing and results.

For this reason, microblading is not recommended for everyone. In order to find out if this procedure is ideal for you, please see the list below for contraindications before making an appointment.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

(Any condition that renders a particular line of treatment improper or  undesirable) If you have any of the conditions listed below, you will NOT be considered an eligible candidate for microblading.
If you book a procedure appointment regardless and fail to disclose any of the conditions, please be aware you will have a poor outcome which can lead to further touch-ups to improve the results at an additional cost or treatment may be declined.
If you’re still unsure, please book a consultation first. Your cooperation and understanding is greatly appreciated.

MEDICAL CONDITIONS:

  • Pregnant/nursing
  • Diabetes (due to delayed healing of wounds, there is a higher risk of infection which can also lead to poor results)
  • Chemo (must be off for at least 3 months + Dr. release required)
    Epilepsy (Dr. release required)
  • Major heart problems (most people with heart problems are on medication that can thin the blood which causes over bleeding and poor results. Dr. release required)
  • Autoimmune diseases such as Lupus (skin is already compromised which can lead to poor healing and results. Dr. release required for any other autoimmune diseases)
  • Thyroid conditions such as Hypo, Hyperthyroidism, Graves Disease, and Hashimoto’s (results in thicker skin which can lead to poor results after healing)
  • Trichotillomania (due to constant pulling of hair, scar tissue is prominent and color will not heal evenly/properly)

SKIN CONDITIONS:

  • Keloids/scarring (can result in poor healing of strokes)
  • Hyper-pigmentation
  • Moles, growths, wounds, sunburns, sores, acne, or unknown rashes in eyebrow area
  • Eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, dermatitis, keratosis pilarison, or chronic acne anywhere around the face. (chances are your skin is in a constant state of unrest and shedding therefore won’t hold the pigment well and will just lead to poor results)
  • Shingles (permanent makeup will not be performed as the procedure could cause a flare-up)
  • Large pores (strokes may look blurry and not as crisp and clean as expected)
  • Oily skin-Severe (oils can cause pigment to fade faster and may cause strokes to look blurry making strokes look blurry and not crisp. It is highly recommended to treat your skin before having microblading done)
  • Fitzpatrick skin type 1, usually sensitive and ruddy skin. Also very thin and translucent (will bleed easily and not retain color and lead to poor results)
  • Bleed easily or hemophilia (the pigment will not retain leading to poor results)
  • Wrinkles near eyebrow area (can make the overall look appear uneven)

MEDICATIONS:

  • Accutane/Retin-A (alters the skin and will not heal well after the procedure, must be off for 1 year before microblading)
  • Retinol or Vitamin A user (skin composition is altered and will not heal well. Must discontinue use 1 month prior to treatment)
  • Latisse (eyelash and eyebrow growth serum bring extra circulation to the area resulting in more hair growth. The skin in that area is in a hypersensitive state and will bleed easily. Discontinue using these at least 3-6 months before going in for a session otherwise you will instantly bleed profusely and the pigment will not retain)
  • Aspirin, niacin, vitamin E, ibuprofen and/or fish oil. (must be off from all for at least 48 hours prior to procedure as it can cause over bleeding and the pigment will not retain)
  • Additional medications that may also increase bleeding:
    • Vorapaxar (Zontivity)
    • Clopidogrel (Plavix)Pr
    • Asugrel (Effient)
    • Eliquis (apixaban)
    • Ticagrelor (Brilinta)
    • Ticlopidine (Ticlid)
    • Cilostazol (Pletal)
    • Triflusal (Disgren)
    • Dipyridamole (Persantine)
    • Coumadin
    • Pradaxia (dibigatran)
    • Xarelto (rivaraxaban)
    • Savaysa (edoxaban)

TREATMENTS:

  • Botox (must be healed for at least 3 weeks)
  • Chemical peels (must be healed for at least 60 days)
  • Hair transplant (if you’ve had a hair transplant for your eyebrows, most likely scar tissue will form which means microblading would not be suitable)

OTHER CONSIDERATIONS:

  • Sick with a cold, flu, or sinus/respiratory infection (for your utmost comfort and to limit the spreading of bacteria and viruses, it is required to book or reschedule your appointment when you are in good health)
  • If you sweat heavily, tan or sunbathe frequently, the salt in your sweat can exfoliate your skin and may cause the pigment to fade faster which means you may need your touch-ups more occasionally (this is not a contraindication but something to consider)

WHEN TO BOOK

Microblading is a tattoo which is a temporary wound, and just like any wound it takes time to heal. Therefore, if you are planning a vacation or have any activities coming up involving sun, sweating or swimming, you will be limited. To ensure you will be able to maintain and follow the healing process properly, please review the pre care instructions below and the healing process before you book your appointment (including your 6 week touch up).

THE HEALING

Process

PRE CARE INSTRUCTIONS

Before your microblading procedure:

  • Do not work out or sweat heavily the day of the procedure.
  • Do not take aspirin, niacin, vitamin E, fish oil or ibuprofen 48 hours before procedure.
  • No waxing, tweezing or tinting 3 days before procedure.
  • No alcohol or caffeine 12 hrs before procedure.

POST CARE INSTRUCTIONS

After your microblading procedure:

  • IMMEDIATELY following, apply ice to treated areas for 10-30 minutes.
  • Ice helps reduce swelling and aids in the healing process.
  • NO scrubbing or cleansing with any creams or chemicals at all. Only RINSE with mild anti-bacterial soap once a day with water and lightly patting dry with paper towels or gauze. DO NOT use regular towels because the fibers can pull off the scabs prematurely which can cause pigment loss.
  • DO NOT expose treated areas to full water pressure from the shower until completely healed.
  • KEEP SKIN DRY at all times. NO aquaphor, creams, medicines or oils of any kind. Dry healing has been proven best for results, regardless if you have oily or dry skin.
  • DO NOT rub or pick at the epithelial crust (scabs). Allow it to flake off on its own.
  • DO NOT soak treated area in baths, swimming pools, hot tubs, fresh or salt water, or chlorinated pools for at least 3-4 weeks following your procedure.
  • LIMIT sun exposure for 14 days.
  • AVOID increased sweating and any activities that may cause it. Sweat is salt and can exfoliate and prematurely fade the treated area.
  • NO tanning after the procedure for 14 days. The tan will exfoliate the skin taking color with it as it fades.
  • NO laser, chemical treatments or peelings until after 60 days from procedure.
  • AVOID performing tasks related to heavy household cleaning such as garage or basement cleaning where there is a lot of airborne debris to prevent infection.
  • AVOID drinking alcohol in excess, as it may lead to slow healing of wounds.
  • AVOID driving in open air vehicles such as convertibles, boats, bicycles, or motorcycles.
Remember you will NOT be allowed to donate blood for 1 calendar year following, per guidelines of the American Red Cross.
